Sorting out the right file cabinet

Count what you need to store before choosing the number of compartments: A4 files, box files, catalogues or school books. Every product page lists the real size and materials, so check the measurements against your largest folder before you order.

Heights run from about 120 cm to over 220 cm, and widths from about 60 to 160 cm. A cabinet around 120 cm high leaves wall space above for shelves or a notice board, while a tall one makes good use of a narrow wall, as long as the ceiling, fan and light fittings leave enough room.

Laminated board wipes clean and handles everyday humidity well, but paper soaks up moisture, so keep important documents in closed folders or add silica gel packs, and avoid placing the cabinet against a damp wall.
