These cushions come in squares from 40 x 40 to 70 x 70 cm, 60 x 40 cm rectangles and round shapes, mostly in cotton and polyester blends, with some that add leather or suede.
On a standard sofa, 45 x 45 or 50 x 50 cm squares sit comfortably against the back. Deep seats and large corner sofas can take 60 or 70 cm squares at the ends, with a smaller size in front. A 60 x 40 cm rectangle works as lumbar support on a dining bench or armchair, or as the front layer on a bed.
Grouping by pattern keeps things calm: one printed or embroidered cushion with two plain ones in a shade picked from it, such as khaki, brown or grey. Round cushions add a softer outline to a row of squares.
Cotton and polyester blends crease less than pure cotton, though every fabric fades in strong afternoon sun, so turn cushions that sit near a window now and then. Plump them regularly to keep their shape, and wipe leather or suede with a dry cloth rather than wetting it.
