How to choose a shoe cabinet

Count your pairs first, then measure. Shelves about 30 cm deep take most adult shoes, while big trainers or boots are happier at 35 cm or more. The cabinets here run roughly 30 to 38 cm deep, so they stay slim in a corridor, and widths go from about 60 cm up to around 120 cm for the wider three-door models.

Height decides how you use it. A cabinet around 70 to 90 cm tall doubles as a ledge for keys and a wallet, while a tall unit of about 186 cm holds many more pairs on the same 60 cm of floor. Leave room in front for the doors to open fully.

Ventilation matters in Malaysian humidity. Let shoes air out for a few hours before closing the doors, open the cabinet now and then, and wipe laminated board dry if wet shoes drip. PVC models handle moisture better, which helps if the cabinet stands on a covered porch or near a floor that often gets wet.
