Stools for extra seating at the table and around the home, from low seats about 45 cm to 49 cm high to counter versions of about 73 cm, in Malaysian Oak, bentwood, beech and cowhide.
Decide where the stool will spend most of its time. Low stools of about 45 cm to 49 cm sit at the same height as dining chairs, so they work as spare seats at a 75 cm table and slide underneath once guests leave. Counter stools of up to about 73 cm suit higher counters; aim for roughly 25 cm to 30 cm between the seat and the underside of the counter.
Materials change the feel. Bentwood with ash or Malaysian Oak veneer gives a curved Scandinavian shape, solid wood such as the Auna Stool (Solid) stands up well to daily use, and fabric or cowhide seats add softness. PVC wipes clean and copes with damp corners, useful in humid homes.
Stools are small enough to carry between rooms, so a step stool or a spare seat by the door is always handy. Some come ready assembled. Wipe cowhide with a dry cloth and keep it away from strong sunlight, which can fade it.
