Choosing a bed frame size and style

Many frames state their side rail length in the name, 1900 mm or 2030 mm, so match it to the length of your mattress. The whole frame is longer than the mattress, most measuring about 200 to 225 cm from head to foot, so allow around 60 cm of walking space at the foot and along each side you get in from.

Double deckers stand up to about 190 cm tall, so check the gap to a ceiling fan and make sure whoever sleeps on top can sit up. A pull out bed needs clear floor beside or in front of it, roughly the width of the bed again, for the lower bed to slide out.

Metal frames are light to move and only need a dry wipe; dry them quickly if they get wet to keep rust away. Malaysian Oak and acacia frames feel solid and heavy. Fabric-covered frames can be vacuumed, and some are marked pet-friendly for homes with cats or dogs.
